Art Smart: our very own artists in residence Jill Talbot and Margaret Carey featured in Rattler magazine.
Art has always been integral to early childhood, but there is something of a Renaissance occurring in services across NSW, with practising artists hosting centre-based workshops and children curating their own exhibitions.
Rattler explored the issue of artist in residence programs in early childcare, with ICS, Jill Talbot and Margaret Carey featured in the article.
“Early childhood education recognises early literacy skills and early numeracy skills but I propose that there are also a myriad of early artistic or aesthetic skills. My other point is that art and aesthetics, like the most important program inclusions, is best as part of a holistic approach and it fits beautifully within the idea of an emergent curriculum,” Margaret Carey says.
