Stewart Street Children’s House Runner Up for Prestigious Award
Stewart Street Children’s Centre has placed second in a prestigious state-wide award for its ongoing dedication to ‘nurturing nature’.
The SPROuts Practice Award is funded by the New South Wales Early Childhood Environmental Education Network, acknowledging Early Childhood Services that demonstrate outstanding commitment to promoting environmental best practice and sustainability.
Teacher at Stewart Street, Mine Tekkol took on the role of developing and maintaining the natural and sustainable environment at Stewart Street.
“I was very chuffed to be at the conference on a Saturday when Stewart Street received the award for placing second.”
This is the third consecutive year Illawarra Children’s Services has been successful in achieving a SPROuts award recognition. Last year Bulli Children’s Centre won first place and in 2009 Kenny Street achieved second place.
General Manager, Communications Jennine Primmer says the success of Stewart Street shows Mine’s commitment to her work and the values of Illawarra Children’s Services.
Illawarra Children’s Services is developing natural Playspaces at all its early childhood services to educate children about sustainability and provide creative, stimulating and imaginative learning environments for children.
