Illawarra Children's Services has awarded two scholarships to outstanding students completing their final stage of the Diploma of Children's Services (Early Childhood) at TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute.
The winners of the 2011 scholarships, Keira Docherty (Wollongong campus) and Michelle Hunt (Shellharbour campus), accepted their awards and scholarship prize of $1500 each at a special presentation.
Illawarra Children's Services CEO Bill Feld said that the organisation wanted to give the scholarships to two outstanding achievers who have a real passion for early childhood education.
"TAFE graduates contribute every day to meeting the needs of children and families in our many services across the Illawarra," said Bill.
"We are very pleased to offer this opportunity for two current final stage students to be recognised before they graduate."

I'm studying a Bachelor of Education - The Early Years. I'm passionate about working with young children and helping them have the best start in life.
Where did you grow up?
Mudgee and then moved with my family to the Bega Valley for high school.
How did you manage transferring to Wollongong to study?
I decided to move to Wollongong because of its excellent reputation for education, although unfortunately I have not been able to see my family much during the last year because of the long distance from home.

During my first university year I've lived at Campus East. Living at campus has been a great experience in allowing me to meet a wide range of people from all over the state.
Do you enjoy living in the Illawarra?
Very much! There are a lot more opportunities in a larger city.
Who inspired you growing up?
My parents and extended family have always been supportive of me and encouraged me to achieve to the best of my ability.
What do you do when your not studying?
I enjoy the beach, friends and music.
In what way has the scholarship assisted you?
I'm very thankful to have received the scholarship. It has allowed me to focus more on study instead of working part time to be financially secure.
